Event Description

The inaugural running of the Daytona 200 took place on January 24, 1937, and marked the first year of Daytona Bike Week. The race took place on a beach and road course south of Daytona Beach. It was discontinued in 1942 because of World War II, although riders still showed up for an unofficial party. By 1961 the race was moved to Daytona International Speedway where it still runs today.

Today Daytona Bike Week spans 10 days in March, with the city of Daytona Beach and its environs hosting up to 500,000 riders every year. The rally now includes bike shows, demo rides, guided tours, vendors, concerts, party spots and, of course, races.
